5.OA Operations and Algebraic Thinking

Learning objectives:

  • Writing and interpreting numerical expressions
  • Students will use brackets, parentheses, or braces in numerical expressions and evaluate expressions with these symbols.

  • Analyzing patterns and relationships
  • Students will generate two numerical patterns using two given rules and identify relationships between corresponding terms.

5.NBT Number and Operations in Base Ten

Learning objectives:

  • Understanding the place value system
  • Students will explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10.

  • Performing operations with multi-digit whole numbers and with decimals to hundredths
  • Students will add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths.

5.NF Number and Operations—Fractions

Learning objectives:

  • Use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions
  • Students will solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole.

  • Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to multiply and divide fractions
  • Students will apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.

5.MD Measurement and Data

Learning objectives:

  • Convert like measurement units within a given measurement system
  • Students will convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system.

  • Represent and interpret data
  • Students will use line plots to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit.

5.G Geometry

Learning objectives:

  • Graph points on the coordinate plane to solve real-world and mathematical problems
  • Students will use a pair of perpendicular number lines to define a coordinate system.

  • Classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties
  • Students will classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
